Clinton’s visit sheds light on Prop.
87

Bill Clinton’s visit to UCLA last Friday was a great
opportunity for our campus.

As one of our most revered presidents, it was an honor to see
him speak.

In addition, his never-ending work on crucial issues involving
the environment, global health and poverty make him a role model
for young people everywhere.

Therefore, it was no surprise to see hundreds of students wake
up early Friday morning to watch Clinton speak.

He did not disappoint. His passionate and eloquent advocacy for
Proposition 87 has brought a groundswell of support for the issue
to our campus.

In order to see this, one needed only to take a quick trip down
Bruin Walk last Friday afternoon and watch student after student
walk by wearing “Yes on 87″ stickers.

It’s easy to understand the widespread support for
Proposition 87. It is a common-sense initiative that goes a long
way toward addressing our nation’s energy crisis.

It would be a shame if such a crucial initiative, supported by a
diverse spectrum of Californians, was defeated by big oil companies
concerned only with their own profits.

We must resist the opponents’ slick advertising campaign
and look at the facts: Proposition 87 is good for our health, good
for our environment and strengthens our national security.

As President Clinton said, “Do what you’ve always
done. Claim the future.”
