In conflict, Israel is also holding the gun

I found Alex Hoffman’s cartoon (July 17) to be very
offensive and one-sided.

The depiction of the giant gun with “Hezbollah”
written on it should have a giant war plane beside it emblazoned
with the words “Israel Defense Forces.”

It is not just Hezbollah that is threatening peace, it is also
the Israeli government.

Alex Hoffman’s cartoon plays into the racist paradigm that
when Arab countries use violence it is labeled terrorism, and when
Western countries use violence it is called security.

Companies have it all backward with interns

After reading Harold Lee’s column (“All work, no pay
makes intern class a dull choice,” July 17), I was surprised
that California labor laws require college students to obtain
credit for their unpaid internships.

I find it unfair that a student should be paying to work when
it’s typically the norm to get paid to work.

There are many different ways the state can protect unpaid
interns from potentially unfair abuses at the workplace. Requiring
unpaid internships to receive college credit is simply not the
solution.
