The UCLA men’s golf team ended the first day of NCAA
Regional play on Thursday with mixed results.
The Bruins finished the first round in sixth place overall, 10
strokes behind leader Georgia.
UCLA is among 27 teams competing in the East Regional, which is
being held at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
The top 10 teams from each regional advance to the NCAA
Championship.
If the Bruins are able to maintain their sixth place standing,
it would be good enough for them to advance to the championships.
But the Bruins are only four strokes ahead of three teams that are
tied for 11th place.
Kevin Chappell led the Bruins on day one, shooting a 2-under par
70 and tying for sixth overall on the individual leaderboard.
Freshman Erik Flores shot an even par 72 to tie for 15th
overall. Junior Chris Heintz and sophomore Daniel Im shot a 2-over
par 74 and a 4-over par 76, respectively.
Bringing up the rear for the Bruins was freshman Lucas Lee, who
shot a 9-over par 81 and finished tied for 126th place.
The Bruins continue second round play today.
