Shaun Doria of Bruins United is a solid choice for the position
of Financial Supports commissioner. As the in-house candidate, his
goals for the office are appropriate and realistic.

Doria’s work in the commission affords him valuable
experience that not only translates into his plans, but will allow
him to implement them smoothly without having to spend months
learning the job.

His plans include starting an endowment fund that would aid
students ineligible for other funding or who have lost their
financial support. The fund can also help students attend graduate
school prep courses.

There is also potential for the commission to grow under Doria,
as he plans to make his office relevant to students by holding
quarterly fair that helps them apply for financial aid and
scholarships.

But the best idea Doria has is one that applies to the council
and the way they fund student groups.

Under the current system, student groups are expected to inflate
their estimates when planning their budgets for the next year, and
they are penalized for not using all the money allocated to them.
Doria plans to offer incentives for student organizations to
practice wise spending habits. His plan makes sense and can solve
one of the main problems that exists with the funding process.
