In Coke debate, think of Taco Bell

How soon we forget. Have we learned nothing from the Taco Bell
fiasco?

Perhaps students should be a little more concerned with the
clearly defined and solidly proven health risks posed by the
presence of sodas on campus ““ like obesity, diabetes, and
dental caries, among others ““ and a little less concerned
with the alleged incidents of worker rights violations against the
Coca-Cola Company (“Coalition campaigns against Coca-Cola
& Coke’s practices have no place on campus,” Feb.
28).

Focusing energy on causes which are clearly defined and proven
tend to be a better investment of time and political action. I
sincerely hope that the campaign to remove Coca-Cola products from
the UCLA campus is not as successful as the removal of Taco
Bell.

We all know how utterly embarrassing it was when the restaurants
run by Associated Students UCLA were found guilty of purchasing
practices similar to Taco Bell, which caused ASUCLA to end their
contract with Taco Bell.

Continued protests of dubious merit like these damage the voice
of coherent consumers.
