No truth to claim of school selling out

The first paragraph of Katie Strickland’s “Bunche
Sony Pepsi Hall? I’m buying it” (Feb. 8) is
inaccurate.

We are most certainly not selling advertising space in or on
this new building, and the indication that we are charging up to $1
million for a single wall is ludicrous. What we are doing is
soliciting donations to build an endowment for one of our new
schools, The School of the Future. Donations will be recognized on
a tasteful donor wall in the foyer of the new building. Also, large
donors may request to be identified as sponsoring a particular area
of the school, to be recognized by a small glass plaque. This is a
far cry from “selling out.”

It is true that Paul Vallas, District CEO, said “leave no
dollar behind,” but he was referring to Federal, State,
Municipal, Foundation and Corporate grants as well as private
donations, not to advertising in our halls and classrooms.

Ellen K. Savitz

Senior Vice President for Development
School,

District of Philadelphia
