Do you think BruinCast and other new technologies in the
classroom are going to affect the way UCLA classes are conducted?
Alicia Basmadjian Graduate student, nursing If
they post the lectures online, no one’s going to show up to
class. I probably wouldn’t. I don’t know if (class)
would be as effective because there won’t be any
student-teacher interaction. Priya Keane Third-year,
environmental studies It will make it easier for
(students) to not go to class and still gather what’s coming
from lecture. But I think you would have to change the system so
that people are still rewarded for going to class. Andy
Passaretti Fourth-year, psychobiology It doesn’t
seem like there is much difference between my lecture that’s
taped versus the lectures that aren’t. … Ultimately
it’s a really good thing. Not only if you miss lecture or
skip out on one or if you’re sick, but you can also go back
and review lectures that you didn’t understand fully.
Matt Cowan Third-year, political science and
philosophy I don’t think that people will be able to
retain as much or even have as much motivation to learn if
they’re doing it online. I think there’s something to
be said for going to lecture, staying awake, and engaging yourself
in the learning process.
