Farewell to a fallen Bruin Congratulations to
the Bruin football team for their incredible victory Saturday at
Stanford, and to all the Bruin faithful who have watched with
spellbound amazement, the incredible heart and determination this
team has showed us this season. Unfortunately, in the midst of this
incredible and improbable victory, I am burdened with the task of
revealing to you the devastating loss of one of our own. Gary Wang,
a true Bruin from the class of 1999, died early Saturday morning
from heart failure. He leaves behind a wonderful and loving wife,
Crista, and a sparkling new baby girl, Gabriela Gloria Wang, who
was only able to spend nearly three short weeks with her adoring
father. Personally, I was unable to see Gary interact with his
baby, and for that, Gary, I am sorry. It goes without saying that
Gary was loved deeply by his family and friends. I am positive any
of you readers out there would be extremely hard-pressed to meet
someone as kind, funny, intelligent and ambitious as Gary Wang.
Hey, Gary! When our team pulled off that incredible victory on
Saturday, I cried, brother. I cried not because we won a fairly
important victory in the grand scheme of college football 2005. I
don’t care what anyone says or thinks, Gary! They won that
game for you, brother! Rest in peace, G. And please know that your
baby has dozens if not hundreds of aunts and uncles who will love
her and tell her all about her daddy. Bye, G! Pete Kang

Empty seats I read “Winning Bruins
deserve fans who care” (Oct. 26) and I totally agree with Ben
Azar. I’ve been attending games since the age of 5 and have
had four season tickets in the alumni section since graduating. I
attended all the games as a student, too ““ for the first two
years as part of the band (go band!), and then in the student
section for the final two. I’ve gone to the Rose Bowl, Cotton
Bowl and Vegas Bowl in recent years. It really pissed me off that
we couldn’t even top 50,000 for the (Oregon State) game.
