Elections shouldn’t invade dorms
It’s Undergraduate Students Association Council election
time, and Bruin Walk is cluttered with pamphlet-passers. After a
long day on campus spent avoiding them, I like to go back to my
room on the Hill and not be bothered.
This year, however, it seems I can’t do that. In what
appears to be a shady dodging of the rules, combined with a lack of
punishment, slates have been able to campaign in what I consider to
be my place of residence.
They have been seen handing out fliers outside the dining halls
and harassing the local patrons. When I got back Monday, I found
fliers from Student Power! on every door in my hall. Needless to
say, I did not approve.
All this political mumbo-jumbo has left me feeling
underrepresented, something I thought USAC strove to remedy ““
not create. They walk up to me on Bruin Walk, ask if they can have
some of my time, take it anyway, demand my vote, and don’t
even bother to ask my name.
My name is Michael, and I am a person, not a ballot. Oh yeah,
and get out of my house!

Darfur column lacks information
Thanks, David Keyes, for noticing and praising the UCLA Darfur
activists (“Darfur Activism Heroic,” May 4), but I kept
reading, looking for real information. What are they actually
doing? Who are they? How can I find them? I’m glad you like
what they’re doing, but your column didn’t say much
beyond, “Wow, someone is doing something really important,
but I won’t tell you who or what or how.”
