Jenny Wood should be the next president of the Undergraduate
Students Association Council. She is a leader and advocate who has
the strength, ideas and energy to lead council.

Students won’t face a difficult choice when they vote in
USAC run-offs this week. Vote for a leader who has proven she can
be effective, active and inspiring, or vote for one whose biggest
““ and most exciting ““ proposal is to turn USAC into a
senate.

As a general representative this year, she created and organized
the Get Tested Campaign, the Tsunami Relief Coalition, a Web site
designed to help organize community service events, among other
successful initiatives.

There are certainly campaigns we wished she hadn’t pursued
so strongly, such as the misguided tirade on the expected
cumulative progress requirement. Nevertheless, Wood is presidential
material and Alex Gruenberg is not.

Wood’s opponent, Gruenberg, is a reformer, not a leader.
His slate, Bruins United, will control a majority of next
year’s council, and will push reforms such as the senate
system with or without Gruenberg. Compared to Wood, Gruenberg is
uninspiring and unproven.

This board stands behind its initial endorsement of Wood for
president. She is the best person for the job, not only because of
her experience but because of her potential to balance and unite
what is sure to be a turbulent council.
