The Student Power! slate and the newly formed Future Front slate
are making their alliance official today, on the first day of the
undergraduate student government elections.
The leaders of the two slates plan to announce their coalition
today at 9 a.m. in Meyerhoff Park.
Current president of the Undergraduate Students Association
Council Allende Palma/Saracho, who is also a member of Student
Power!, said the alliance was a natural one since he believes the
two campaigns are complimentary.
“Future Front is about equity and quality and we are about
social justice,” he said.
The Future Front slate is running four candidates in the
elections, three of whom are running for the three general
representative spots, a position for which the Student Power! slate
is not running any candidates.
A press release announcing the alliance stated that the two
slates are the best choice for students and questions the integrity
of the other major slate in the elections, Bruins United.
The release calls the Bruins United campaign an attempt to gain
power and dilute student voice at UCLA.
Bruins United presidential candidate Alex Gruenberg said it was
expected from the onset that Future Front and Student Power! were
working together.
“This shows how desperate these folks are to expand their
base,” Gruenberg said, adding that he believes Bruins United
does not need to form coalitions and is already a good
representation of student voice.
