UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero has accepted an invitation
to join the “College Basketball Partnership,” a group
designed to improve and promote college basketball, it was
announced on Monday.

NCAA President Myles Brand announced the formation of the group
last December, calling the partnership “an action-oriented
group” whose effects will be realized over the next several
years.

But in a December press conference, Brand said that the
formation of the group is not an indication that he thinks the game
of college basketball is “in some way broken.”

“We certainly recognize that there are aspects of the game
that are not what we would want them to be right now,” Brand
said. “We think that we can better protect and grow college
basketball in the future by having all those involved work together
to plan that future.”

By accepting Brand’s invitation, Guerrero joins a list of
well known names that include Brand, Jim Boeheim (Syracuse head
coach), Tom Izzo (Michigan State head coach), and Mike Krzyzewski
(Duke basketball head coach).

FOOTBALL: Defensive tackle C.J. Niusulu has been granted his
release and is expected to transfer at the end of spring quarter.
If Niusulu decides to transfer to a Division I-AA school, he will
be eligible to play in 2005. If he decides to transfer to a
Division I-A school, Niusulu will have to sit one year before
regaining his eligibility in 2006 … Defensive end Kevin Harbour
is currently off the football team due to academic reasons. He
plans to take extension and summer school classes to be eligible
for reinstatment in the 2005 fall quarter … UCLA and San Diego
State have switched home sites in 2008 and 2009 so that the Bruins
will have six home games in both seasons.
