The top-ranked UCLA women’s water polo team (22-0, 6-0
MPSF) maintained its unblemished record with wins over No. 11 UC
Irvine (11-10, 4-6 MPSF) and No. 18 Arizona State (5-12, 1-5) over
spring break. On Thursday, seldom-used freshman Monique Blanchard
scored the Bruins’ first goal of the game as the team jumped
out to a quick 4-1 lead en route to its 14-4 win over the
Anteaters. After UCI’s Robyn Kaake converted on a penalty
shot to cut UCLA’s lead to 5-2 in the second period, the
Bruins reeled off nine consecutive unanswered goals to build a 14-2
lead they would never relinquish. The Bruins did not let their
guard down Saturday against the Sun Devils, cruising to a 12-0
victory. Goalie Emily Feher had five saves in recording her second
shut out of the season.

MEN’S TENNIS: No. 6 UCLA (19-2, 4-0 Pac-10) extended their
win-streak to seven, with a pair of victories over Oregon and
Washington over the weekend. UCLA yielded just one point during the
two matches. In its 6-1 win over Oregon on Saturday, Mathieu
Dehaine did not drop a game to Chris Liao at the No. 6 spot. UCLA
shut out Washington one day earlier, 5-0. After the Bruins had
clinched the match, the matches on courts 3 and 4 were
suspended.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: While many students headed home for spring
break, No. 13 UCLA took to the road. UCLA (12-4, 5-1 Pac-10) picked
up three road wins in the past week, the most recent, a 5-2 win
over Oregon on Saturday. The Bruins swept the doubles matches
against the Ducks, improving from their effort against the Sun
Devils a week earlier when they got swept. UCLA still managed to
prevail over both Arizona schools on their desert road trip. In
singles, Tracy Lin and Laura Gordon paced the Bruins, not dropping
a set in any of the three matches.

SWIMMING: Four Bruin swimmers are competing at the USA Swimming
National this week in Indianapolis. Kim Vandenberg finished 14th in
the 100-meter freestyle, while Katie Arnold placed 16th in the
100-meter backstroke and 48th in the 50-meter freestyle. Isabel
Miesner finished 35th in the 200-meter individual medley. Katie
Nelson is also expected to compete in the 400- and 800-meter
freestyle in the remaining two days of the event. She will need to
finish in the top four to qualify for either the World
Championships or the World University Games later in the
summer.
