Editorial: UCLA shouldsave Farmers’ market, host it on campus

The Westwood Farmers’ market is one of the Village’s
most compelling attractions ““ but that is not enough to save
it from the multi-million dollar Casden Properties construction
project on Glendon Avenue.

The project, which is due to begin next week, will force nearly
a third of the farmers’ market to find a new home.

Hopefully the vendors will be able to relocate to a spot that
allows them to continue to prosper and grow. If necessary, UCLA
should consider hosting the market right on campus.

The market should not be permanently truncated because the
Casden project construction will dominate Glendon Avenue for months
to come. Allowing the displaced vendors to sell on campus would be
a service to the community, students and the vendors. Relocating
may also attract additional customers to ASUCLA-operated stores and
eateries, and will likely bring more student customers to market
vendors than the Weyburn-Glendon location.
