Letters to the sports desk

Thanking the crowd I would first like to begin
by thanking the unbelievable fans that came to our match on Friday
night against USC. The energy and excitement during the game was
surreal. In all of my years at this school, I have never been more
proud to be a Bruin than when looking out into the crowd and seeing
the true spirit of UCLA. Everybody in Pauley Pavilion was standing
on their feet, some dressed up in hilarious outfits, and some
screaming so loud that the USC fans turned their school color. So
thank you to everyone who came out to support us, for without your
support, we would be half the team we are now.

Machine rules man It’s about time that
someone finally recognized the importance of making human skill and
athletic ability obsolete. Just as we use medicine to extend our
lifetimes and sex lives, so too will we use machines to maximize
our enjoyment outside, no matter how athletically challenged we
are. While the author (of “Motor sports are taking over the
athletic world, Jan. 20), Hector Leano, is on the right track, he
needs to realize that surfing is an unfinished sport; only when you
can harness the power of 10 to 100 horses inside a surfboard can
the waves REALLY be enjoyed.

Here we go again … The last two men’s
basketball games were the most embarrassing, humiliating displays
of lackluster, heartless basketball that we’ve seen since …
well, last year. Losing is forgivable. Letting arch-rivals come
into our house and stomp on your throats is not. It’s about
time the team gets over the swelled heads caused by early success
and realize it will take far more than the team is currently giving
to finish out the Pac-10 schedule with some semblance of dignity.
We’ll be rooting for you with all of our hearts ““ we
look forward to seeing you play with all of yours.
