Burial arrangements made for soldier

VENTURA “”mdash; Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas H. Anderson will be
buried here after military officials, settling an argument between
his divorced parents, granted custody of his body to his
father.

Anderson, 19, died Friday when his Humvee rolled over during a
nighttime combat patrol near Mahmudiyah, a town about 15 miles
south of Baghdad, according to military officials. Anderson, a June
2002 graduate of Bonanza High School in Las Vegas, split his time
between Las Vegas, where his mother lives, and Ventura, where his
father and younger brother reside.

Anderson’s parents each wanted his grave nearby. So the
Marine Corps relied on an arcane military regulation and granted
custody of his body to his eldest parent ““ his father, Al
Anderson.
