It would have been easy for the Bruins to let up.

After all, UCLA did clinch its third consecutive Pac-10
conference title last weekend and the University of San Diego was
in dire need of a win to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

But coming off a one-goal loss to a pitiful Oregon State team
last Sunday, the No. 4 Bruins(12-3-2, 6-2-0 Pac-10) used their
heads to pound the Toreros(7-9-3, 4-5-2 West Coast Conference) into
the ground, 4-0, at Drake Stadium on Thursday night.

“There wasn’t going to be a let down,” UCLA
junior defender Jordan Harvey said. “After each of our losses
we’ve come back the next game focused and we’ve worked
hard and it shows.

“No one is going to let up, our coaches are not going to
let us do that and no one on our team will either.”

It became apparent early in the game which team owned the
upperhand. The Bruins scored two of their three goals in the first
half via Chad Barrett headers on passes from Benny Feilhaber and
Harvey respectively.

Barrett, who also finished with an assist to senior Mike
Enfield, has now scored five goals in the past six games.

“Forwards expect to score, they expect to help every
bit,” Barrett said.

“When you’re not scoring goals or assisting goals
then you’re not doing your job, so now I’m doing what I
came here for.”

Now with the NCAA Tournament just one game away ““ a home
game against UC Davis ““ the Bruins put themselves in a
position to go in with a full-head of steam.

“We just have to have the finishing touch,” Barrett
said. “And we found it.”
