Before this past weekend, the UCLA men’s soccer team was
ranked No. 19 in the country and in desperate need of some offense.
What a difference a weekend makes. After UCLA rolled to a road
sweep on Sunday, senior midfielder Mike Enfield
was selected College Soccer News National Player of the Week.
Enfield, who currently leads the Pac-10 in scoring with eight goals
and 17 points, had three goals and one assist in the shutout
victories over California and Stanford. After the Bay Area sweep,
the No. 7 Bruins (7-2-2, 3-1-0 Pac-10) skyrocketed 12 spots in the
Soccer America rankings. No. 5 Washington (10-3-2, 3-0-1) is the
only school in the conference ranked higher than the Bruins.

MEN’S TENNIS: The Bruins dominated this
past weekend’s Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. Senior
Luben Pampoulov, who was seeded first, won five
matches en route to the singles title in a field of 32. Pampoulov
defeated Roger Gusber of Texas, 6-3, 6-4, in Sunday’s final.
Bruin sophomore Benjamin Kohlloeffel, who was
seeded No. 2, took home the consolation singles title. Kohlloeffel,
who sat out last season, was victorious in the first round but
dropped his second match to Texas Tech’s Bojan Szumanski,
6-2, 6-4. Kohlloeffel came back in his third match and edged out
Callum Beale of Texas 6-2, 7-6(3). The Bruins will swing into
action Wednesday when they head to Malibu for the ITA Regionals
from Oct. 20-24.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: A dominating
performance by No.6 USC at Lyon Center this past Friday, 3-0,
dropped the Bruins to No. 12 in the American Volleyball Coaches
Association Poll. UCLA (11-5, 4-3 Pac-10) will attempt to improve
its record on the road against Oregon and Oregon State on Thursday
and Friday, respectively.

HOCKEY: UCLA (1-1) opened its season by
splitting a pair of games over the weekend at Cal, winning its
first game 4-3 Friday night before dropping its second game 4-3
Saturday. Junior transfer Nikki Kollar scored two
goals in Friday night’s game, including the game-winner. Cal,
who defeated USC already once this season, was the Pac-8 champion
last season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: UCLA’s
men’s team is seeking a freshman or sophomore with basketball
knowledge and/or experience for a student manager position.
Interested students should contact head student manager
Jason Ludwig at (562)-522-5710 or via e-mail at
[email protected].
