Film & TV: “˜Touch of pink’
It’s east-meets-west hilarity when an Ismaili Canadian guy
named Alim (Jimi Mistry) gets a surprise visit from his
traditionalist mother attempting to set him up with a proper Muslim
girlfriend. But what’s not so funny is that Alim’s
mother has no idea that he’s gay, and living in London with
his English boyfriend (Kyle MacLachlan) with no intention of
returning to Canada to attend his cousin’s extravagant
wedding. It’s a romantic comedy that’s sure to make the
gay inside all of us laugh at least a little. For more

Theater & Arts: The workshop from
“˜Hell’
Loosely based on Dante’s
“Inferno” (and we do mean loosely), “Hell”
is an opera about all the things we love to talk about during
presidential elections occurring during times of war. It includes
10 singers and a 15-piece orchestra, and revolves around the story
of a lower-Manhattan poet who wakes up one morning and finds
himself in a strange, strange place where people shop all day and
the land is led by a bunch of talking trees. Well, we know the
trees aren’t meant to be President Bush, because he
doesn’t own a timber company. For more info, go to
www.hammer.ucla.edu. Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. Hammer museum;
