Adidas contract almost wrapped up

UCLA expects to finalize its shoe-apparel contract extension
with Adidas by the end of next week, Associate Athletic Director
Glenn Toth confirmed Tuesday.
A remaining snag, Toth said, is when Adidas will make its
scheduled payments to the university. Toth also said that personnel
changes at Adidas were holding up the agreement.
“We would have expected the deal to be done
already,” he said.
The extension, which will tie UCLA to Adidas until 2011, is
expected to be slightly more lucrative than the six-year, $18.95
million deal that will expire after the 2004-05 academic year.
Aside from the additional compensation, the only other change is
that the embroidery on UCLA’s uniforms will look a little
different.
“It’s a pretty darn good contract,” Toth said.
“We didn’t have to change much.”
A shoe-apparel contract offsets what would be a hard-dollar
expense for UCLA ““ supplying the athletic department with
money and equipment. The money is not ear-marked for any particular
expense, but is put toward the department’s general operating
fund.
Including UCLA, Adidas shares similar all-encompassing
partnerships with six schools including Notre Dame, Tennessee and
Pittsburgh.
