Family, police continue search for missing student

UCLA student Ahmad Arain has been missing for over a month, but
university police said it has no intention of stopping the search
for him.

The fourth-year computer science student was reported missing
July 23 when he didn’t return to his Anaheim home after
taking an MTA bus bound for UCLA that morning.

Arain never arrived at his scheduled meeting with an academic
adviser that day. Surveillance footage from MTA Bus 6585 shows
Arain exiting the bus at 11:30 a.m. July 23 at a residential stop
about 6 miles from UCLA.

Arain has not been seen or heard from since, and there has been
no activity from his cellular phone or credit cards.

Investigators do not know why Arain got off at the stop where he
did.

Though there have been no recent developments in the search,
investigators continue to get new leads in the case and have no
plans of stopping, said Sgt. Jim Vandenberg of the UCPD.

Arain’s family has been searching the area around the stop
at which he exited the bus, posting fliers and talking to people
who may have seen Arain.

The family also hired a private investigator to help with the
search.

Two weeks ago, the family increased the reward offered to
$20,000 for information leading to Arain’s safe return.

Though the ordeal has been difficult for Arain’s family
members, they continue to hold out hope that he will return home
safely.
