Last year, Caitlin Benyi was the freshman hitting behind
All-American Natasha Watley.

This year, Benyi was the All-American.

The sophomore clubbed an NCAA-leading 24 home runs this season
and led UCLA to its second-consecutive NCAA title.

“It’s definitely more memorable that we won in the
year that I was an All-American,” Benyi said.

After being Team USA’s best hitter in the World Junior
Championships, Benyi’s breakthrough season wasn’t a
complete surprise.

But few expected the slender Benyi to lead the country in
homers. She was the team’s most consistent hitter and was the
spark plug for the offense all year long.

“I was just impressed how the team fed off of her
success,” coach Sue Enquist said.
