“Open House”
Egyptian Theatre
June 10, 7:30 p.m. You’ve probably never wanted to break out
into song and dance while perusing a typically sterile open house
on the homebuyers market ““ which is exactly what gives this
new musical comedy the potential to be original. Plus,
there’s a discussion with Dan Mirvish, the film’s
director, following the screening and then finger sandwiches in the
theater’s lobby. For more information, visit
www.egyptiantheatre.com.
“Ghost in the Shell”
Landmark Nuart Theater
June 11, midnight A futuristic anime film about a female cyborg cop
who, with her partner, tracks down a powerful hacker called the
Puppet Master. The film will be shown on the Nuart’s screen
in the theater’s weekly Friday-night-at-midnight series. Just
hope the Puppet Master doesn’t look like the cast of
“Avenue Q,” even if they did win lots of Tonys. Check
out www.landmarktheaters.com for more information.
“Hannah and Her Sisters” and “Crimes
and Misdemeanors”
New Beverly Cinema
June 11-12 While most people probably first think of “Annie
Hall” and “Manhattan” when Woody Allen comes to
mind (if they’re not thinking of Soon-Yi), these two films
represent some of his best, and most understated work. Allen is
present ““ but not the focal point ““ in both films,
giving them a softer feel that’s just as entertaining as
Allen’s edgy neuroticism.
“Next Action Star”
NBC
June 14, 10 p.m. Catch a sneak preview of the newest summer reality
series, in which 14 finalists fight (hopefully, literally) to star
in their own action movie that will undoubtedly bomb at the box
office. It’s like “Project Greenlight,” only
without the star power. Still, you can check out www.nbc.com for
more information.
