Asian Americans strengthen country

I wanted to thank the sports section for the article on Francis
Wai (“Honoring an Asian American hero,” May 28). I
think it is so important that Americans realize that Asian American
men have sacrificed for this country and that this country is
stronger for it.

Shining a light on men like Wai is a great way to demonstrate
that Asian Americans are not foreigners and that we love this
country and are, in fact, real Americans.

Former player cherishes Adams

I appreciate the article on Gary Adams (“Baseball: Lessons
and Legacies,” May 28) a great deal.

While enduring four years of dive-backs and distance runs, some
successful seasons and some not, Coach Adams was teaching lessons
we never realized we were learning.

His uncompromising methods and leadership by example continue to
impact the lives of several generations of UCLA ballplayers far
beyond Jackie Robinson Stadium.

That’s the true measure of a great teacher.

Thanks, Gary, for your 30 years of dedication and doing it the
Bruin way.

Matt Morrison

UCLA baseball player, 1981-1984
