Same-sex marriage rally held in Westwood

High school students organized and held a rally in support of
same-sex marriage in front of the Federal Building on Saturday.

More than 100 students, teachers and parents from over 10 Los
Angeles area high schools attended the rally, which featured a
speech by West Hollywood Mayor John Duran.

Duran applauded the students for taking up the issue and making
a difference in the fight for gay marriage while still being in
high school.

For two hours, protesters lined up along Wilshire Boulevard,
waving brightly colored posterboard signs emblazoned with slogans
such as, “We all deserve the right to marry,” and
cheering when passing drivers honked their support.

The event was organized by students from the newly founded
Gay-Straight Alliance of Windward High, a private day school in
West Los Angeles.

“I’m so pleased,” said Sarah Freed, a junior
at Windward who was one of the rally coordinators.

Reports from Bruin wire services.
