Speaks out

Have you heard of “Take Back the Night”? Do you
think events like this help improve campus safety? Angela
Bao

Third-year, mathematics and economics
“I think (they) would if they’re made available for
people to find out. Then we would know about these events, because
I didn’t learn about this until you told me.”

Martha Do

Fourth-year, molecular, cell and developmental
biology

“I don’t think something like that would make a
difference as to how I feel, whether or not something happens on
campus. … It’s pretty safe here because of the area
we’re located in.”

Edward Shih

Fourth-year, political science
“Yes. It shows that students are taking initiative for
awareness. In a way, it teaches students to better protect
themselves.”

Martha Webber

Fourth-year, English
“I don’t know about safety. I’d say awareness,
though, definitely, about violence against women. I know I went to
Tuesday night’s event … and I thought it was more of an
awareness experience.”
