M. basketball: Basketball phenom strikes UCLA from consideration

Prep phenom Malik Hairston eliminated four schools ““
including UCLA ““ from his list Tuesday night but preserved
the mystery of where he will attend college for at least one more
day.

Hairston, who is scheduled to hold a press conference Wednesday
afternoon at Detroit Renaissance High School, apparently will
decide between longtime suitor Kansas and relative newcomer Oregon,
according to multiple published reports.

The 6-foot-5 swingman notified the coaches of the four schools
he eliminated ““ Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State and UCLA
““ by telephone Tuesday afternoon.

Word of his cuts had already trickled out by Tuesday night.
