Accusations are not gamesmanship
In David Regan’s April 29 column “Coach
Scates’ pretentious behavior just gamesmanship,” Regan
concludes that it is “gamesmanship” to publicly make or
support false (or, at best, unsubstantiated) accusations about a
fellow competitor in order to gain a competitive advantage.
According to Regan’s reasoning, it would also be
considered “gamesmanship” to publicly accuse a fellow
classmate (with whom you are competing for a grade) of cheating,
simply to distract him and cause him to lose focus before a big
exam. I suppose this tactic would be especially useful if the class
were graded on a curve.
While Al Scates’ statements are entertaining, instead of
“gamesmanship,” perhaps he could show a bit of
sportsmanship.

Coverage of Bieniemy a fair representation
Good article on Eric Bieniemy by Daniel Miller (“Football:
Tough Love,” April 28). He summarized a difficult and
complicated man and situation in a straightforward manner.
