Editorial: Movement for genocide recognition admirable

Every year UCLA community members protest the Turkish and U.S.
governments’ failure to recognize the systematic attempt by
Ottoman Turks to wipe Armenians from existence.

It is touching and impressive that Armenian American students
““ thousands of miles and generations of time removed from
their ancestors ““ still organize for acknowledgment of the
genocide. Their efforts are as stubborn and persistent as the
denials of Turkey and the United States.

One day all the energy spent calling for recognition will pay
off. Memory will return, and a healing process will begin.

When that day comes, those thousands who set aside personal
priorities in support of their ancestors will deserve praise. Until
then, they deserve sympathy and support.
