Calendar: Film & TV
By Daily Bruin Staff
April 14, 2004 9:00 p.m.
“50 First Dates”
Ackerman Grand Ballroom
April 15-16, 7 and 9:30 p.m. If you refused to pay $10 to see an
Adam Sandler movie (being the smart person you are), here’s
your chance to see his newest for only $2. And apparently
it’s not as bad as you’re probably expecting it to be,
as dumb as the previews made it look. Visit
www.campusevents.ucla.edu for more information.
“A Thousand Clouds of Peace”
James Bridges Theater
April 15, 7:30 p.m. The growing world of Mexican cinema scores
again with this film, which won a Teddy Award at the 2003 Berlin
International Film Festival for being the best feature film with
gay or lesbian content. The film revolves around a teenager reading
and re-reading a goodbye letter from an ex-boyfriend. It’s
all very emotional. For more information, log on to

“The Agronomist”
James Bridges Theater
April 20, 7:30 p.m. Famed American director Jonathan Demme spent
years filming Jean Dominique, a Haitian radio journalist kicked out
of Haiti, allowed back in, and then assassinated. His new
documentary about Dominique’s life should be thorough, if
nothing else. For more information, check out

Los Angeles Italian Film Awards
ArcLight Cinemas, Hollywood
April 20-24 Sandwiching your typical small, ethnic film festival
are a pair of screenings with Q&As that could prove
interesting. “Our Italian Husband,” a romantic comedy,
will open the festival on Tuesday night, and “Windy City
Heat,” a practical joke film produced by Jimmy Kimmel will
close the festival the following Saturday night. Ticket prices vary
from screening to screening, but you can get more details at
www.italfilmfest.com.
