Residual damage from wildfires still
lingers
SAN BERNARDINO “”mdash; Properties ravaged by flames during the
fall wildfire are still littered with debris, and the city is
pressuring landowners to clear the rubble.
Up to 28 former homeowners in the Del Rosa neighborhood have
been sent warnings twice to clear their lots. Now, there will be
orders to clear the properties or the city will pay to have it done
and place a tax lien on properties.
Some lots have piles of rock and ash, and debris are blowing to
other lots. City officials fear there might be asbestos among the
ruins.
Voting system scrutinized
RIVERSIDE “”mdash; The county’s attorney wants the Board of
Supervisors to hire outside legal counsel with elections expertise
to fight a challenge to Riverside County’s touch-screen
voting system.
The county’s registrar of voters is overseeing a recount
of votes in the March 2 supervisorial election at the request of
Linda Soubirous, who lost the chance for a runoff against incumbent
Bob Buster by less than a 10th of a percentage point.
Reports from Bruin wire services.
