Do you think big, political rallies on campus help foster debate
or divide people? Erik Hurtado Third-year, political
science “They divide people. I think the division
between the Bruin Republicans and MEChA going on right now is sad.
I think we should unite.” Erin Beck First-year,
political science “I believe that they foster
debate, but I think … once you get people arguing extensively,
… it could divide people more than bring them together.”
Chris Robertson Fifth-year, biology “It
pretty much divides people. (Rallies) talk to people who already
knew about the subject. The people who don’t care about it
just stay away.” Saewon Oh First-year,
undeclared “It’s important for people,
especially … who are in college … (and are) here to learn …
about all different kinds of views and get politically involved.
… It causes differences in opinion but that’s something
that should be positive.” Bill Sweeney Staff, the
Events Office “It helps foster debate. It raises
awareness of issues that other people might not have known
about.” Compiled By Garin Hovannisian; Photos By Roman
