The UCLA swimming and diving team will compete at the NCAA
Championships from Thursday to Saturday. The Bruins enter the
championships, held at College Station, Tex., as the No. 7
nationally ranked team. At last year’s NCAA Championships,
UCLA finished 11th, with nine Bruins receiving All-American
recognition. Thirteen Bruins will compete at this year’s
championships. The returning All-Americans include Leslie
Hovsepian (200 and 400 medley relays), Kristen
Lewis (200 fly, 200 and 400 medley), Sara
Platzer (50, 200, 400 and 800 free and 200, 400 medley),
Malin Svahnstrom (100 and 200 free, 200 IM, 400
and 800 free relays ) and Kim Vandenberg (200 fly,
200, 400 and 800 free).
GYMNASTICS: No. 1 UCLA will begin postseason
competition Saturday at the Pac-10 Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
The Bruins (10-4) have won a total of 11 conference championships,
including four of the last five. Conference all-around and floor
champion Kate Richardson will be looking to defend
her title, as will vault champion Jeanette
Antolin. UCLA, which is coming off a victory over Florida
last weekend, is ranked No. 1 for the fourth consecutive week. At
the conclusion of the conference meet, awards for Pac-10 Gymnast of
the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be
distributed.
TRACK: The UCLA men’s and women’s
track teams will be competing at the Cal State Northridge
Invitational Wednesday through Saturday of this week.
