“Secretary” and “Boogie
Nights”

March 4-5, 7 and 9:30 p.m. While more people are probably familiar
with P.T. Anderson’s “Boogie Nights” than with
Steven Shainberg’s bizarre love story about a sadistic lawyer
(James Spader) and his pain-loving secretary (Maggie Gyllenhaal),
that doesn’t mean there’s no reason to see it. But if
you’re looking for a wild night, these films might not be the
right choice. Even though both films are largely about sex, neither
is really sexy, providing an ironic twist to Campus Events’
self-labeled “Sex Week.” Tickets are $2 at the door.

“Manhattan” and “Annie
Hall”
New Beverly Cinema
March 5-6 Sure, they’re practically the same movie, but
they’re also two of the best pieces of Woody Allen work to
date. The back-to-back screenings should be required viewing for
anyone who only knows Allen from “Small Time Crooks” or
“The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.” That, and after
seeing these two films, you’ll finally understand why Diane
Keaton was the best-dressed person at the Oscars. Visit
