Henry Waxman, whose district includes UCLA, has been serving in
Congress for nearly 30 years. A government pro who challenges
himself and his colleagues to best represent the American people,
the Los Angeles Democrat deserves re-election.

A UCLA alumnus first elected to Congress in 1974, Waxman has
pushed a progressive agenda in Washington. He was among the first
to call for federal money to study AIDS, he pursued punishment for
big tobacco companies and corporate wrongdoers, and he called for
clean air legislation.

Now he is one of the most aggressive of lawmakers in exploring
the Bush administrations connections to Halliburton, a company that
has been given lucrative contracts to rebuild Iraq.

Waxman is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. Victor
Elizalde is running unopposed in the Republican race. Elizalde,
whose campaign calls for tougher efforts to crack down on Internet
piracy, simply offers no compelling reason not to vote for Waxman,
who is one of the most experienced and successful congressional
representatives.
