A UCLA alumna and veteran state legislator, Democrat Sheila
Kuehl is UCLA’s best choice in the election for this
district’s state senator.
As the state has stumbled into fiscal disaster over the last few
years, Kuehl has been a voice of reason. She has called for a
moderate approach involving both program cuts and tax increases,
while some of her colleagues have defiantly offered little help.
Now, she backs Proposition 56, an important initiative that would
help de-politicize the California budget process.
Additionally, Kuehl has made visits to campus recently to
support paid family leave and all-inclusive health care.
The first openly gay or lesbian person elected to
California’s state legislature, Kuehl has broken down
barriers and served as a practical politician. She runs unopposed
in the democratic primary.
Leonard Michael Lanzi runs unopposed as a Republican and Colin
Goldman unopposed as a Libertarian, but neither can come close to
Kuehl.
