Pre-trial hearing for freshman linebacker Xavier Burgess
postponed to March
The pre-trial hearing for linebacker
Xavier Burgess was postponed to March 18, city
attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said Thursday.
Burgess, a freshman, is charged with five misdemeanors stemming
from two separate altercations with a parking enforcement officer
outside Sproul Hall. He pleaded not guilty in November.

DIVING: Sophomore Paige
Thompson
and junior Janine Strack both
advanced to the final of three-meter diving in the 2004 Pac-10
Men’s and Women’s Diving Championships in Federal Way,
Wash. To advance to the final, Thompson came in fourth and Strack
eighth in the preliminary round. Only the top eight finishers
advanced to the finals. The preliminary rounds of the men’s
three-meter and women’s one-meter will be held today.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: On Thursday, UCLA
women’s soccer coach Jill Ellis announced
that the Bruins have signed seven players to national letters of
intent. Highlighted in the class are All-American goalkeeper
Valerie Henderson and regional team members
Brynn McGrath and Theresa
Oda-Burns
. “I think this class will be an excellent
complement to the caliber of players we already have in the
program, and I expect us to be very competitive next year,”
Ellis said in a press release. “I’m looking forward to these
players adding to the rich tradition we have built at
UCLA.”

BASEBALL: UCLA won the first game of its
four-game series Thursday at Hawai’i-Hilo 10-4. Sophomore
Brett McMillan homered and sophomore
Hector Ambriz took a perfect game into the fifth
inning for his first win of the season. Junior Ryan
McCarthey
also homered for the Bruins.
