WILL Win: Tim Robbins, “Mystic
River”

SHOULD Win: Tim Robbins, “Mystic
River”

While Robbins may at times be a controversial figure due to his
anti-war activism, one thing there is no fighting about is this
UCLA alum’s chance of coming home a winner.

His suspenseful portrayal of Dave Boyle in “Mystic
River” is a testament to his uncanny ability to lose himself
in a character. Robbins’ lengthy résumé, including
such powerhouse performances as those in “Shawshank
Redemption” and “The Player” will also surely
weigh heavily in the minds of Academy voters.

While Benicio Del Toro’s amazing performance in “21
Grams” brought depression to a new low, his recent win for
“Traffic” sort of puts him out of the running. And Alec
Baldwin and the phrase “Oscar winner” go together about
as well as Michael Moore and George W. Bush.

So even if the Academy does not trust Robbins to present an
award, that’s not going to stop him from winning one this
year.
