USA Volleyball announced that UCLA women’s volleyball
assistant coach Kim Jagd will serve as the head
coach of the Girls High Performance Camp. Jagd just finished her
11th season as an assistant and will coach her team in the NORCECA
Zone Championships this summer and try to qualify for the 2005
youth and junior world championships. “I am really pleased to
see Kim receive this appointment,” UCLA coach Andy
Banachowski said. “She has been working very hard to be
involved with USA volleyball, and this is a tribute to her
organizational skills and teaching ability to become the head coach
of this youth program. She will do a great job.”
MEN’S GOLF: UCLA freshman Chris
Heintz got a chance to play with his idol, golfing great
Tiger Woods, in a practice round Tuesday before
the Buick Invitational at La Jolla, Calif. “On that first
shot, I was so nervous, my legs were shaking so much I thought I
would fall over,” Heintz said. Heintz will play as an amateur
in the Buick Invitational, which begins Thursday. Heintz will tee
off at 10:18 a.m. on the North Course.
FOOTBALL: The Cincinnati Bengals sent former
UCLA running back Skip Hicks to play for Frankfurt
of NFL Europe this spring after signing him Jan. 16, according to
The Cincinnati Post. Hicks, who was drafted in the third round by
the Washington Redskins in 1998, did not play in 2003 after being
cut by the Carolina Panthers in the preseason. He has career marks
of 1,109 yards and 13 touchdowns. The NFL Europe season begins
April 3 and ends with the World Bowl game June 12.
