Bruin Republicans have no right to criticize
MEChA

MEChA similar to the KKK? The Bruin Republicans have missed the
true philosophy of the organization. They have decided to launch a
campaign against MEChA based on their misinterpretation of one of
our founding documents, “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan.”
(Feb. 3, News, “Bruin Republicans campaign against
MEChA’s views.”)

This document was crucial during the creation of MEChA as a
call-out to our community. It was also written to underline the
lack and denial of human and civil rights. It is based on factual
evidence of the Raza community’s contribution to the
development of this country, thus resulting in our right to be
treated as human beings.

We want to make it clear that no one from the Bruin Republicans
tried contacting any of the MEChA leadership, unless leaving a note
inconspicuously in front of our office without any contact
information is considered a sincere effort to discuss the
organization’s political ideology. Despite their
misconceptions of our ideology, we stand by our philosophy and the
use of documents such as “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan, El
Plan de Santa Barbara, and the Philosophy of MEChA” to give
historical and philosophical grounding to all MEChA members. While
“El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan” has been around for over
30 years, the document’s message is still crucial for all
readers to keep in mind.

Denial of civil and human rights is a tragedy that still
continues today not only for Raza, but to all communities that are
not part of the elite class. We find it quite ironic to be compared
to the Nazi party because of our ideology when the Republican
governor of California was reported to have once admired Hitler.
Which organization is really the one propogating racist ideas?

Elizabeth Alamillo Chairperson of MEChA de
UCLA
