Last Year: Midnight Yell; This Year: Undie Run

The vocal catharsis of frustration that is the Midnight Yell has
been steadily fading since authorities at university apartments and
dorms cracked down so much that students have been conditioned to
keep their traps shut. Gone are the glory days of flaming couches
thrown off rooftops and rapid-fire water balloons. Enter the Undie
Run. Last spring saw only a handful of brave students in tighty
whities show up for the jog up and down Landfair Avenue. But the
Undie Run came back last quarter as flyers with a picture of a
streaking Will Ferrell in “Old School” adorned the
high-rise apartment lobbies. A group of at least 150 students in
leopard briefs, hot pants, and one in a chicken suit jogged down
Gayley Avenue at midnight as the UCPD tailgated the marathon. The
sight was so brilliantly ridiculous that even the police probably
had trouble keeping a straight face.
