Redshirt freshman Matt McKinney will miss the
next six to eight weeks with a fractured bone in his left foot,
UCLA announced Tuesday. The 6-foot-8 forward originally sustained
the injury on June 15 in the Say-No Summer League at West Los
Angeles College. He began working out individually in mid-September
but experienced a setback during individual workouts in
late-September. After inconclusive X-rays and MRI, an Oct. 31 CT
Scan revealed the fracture. McKinney is currently in a walking boot
but doesn’t plan to have surgery. A key contributor on the
UCLA men’s volleyball team last season, McKinney redshirted
as a true freshman in basketball. He is expected to compete for
minutes as a back-up this season and should be healthy in time for
the start of the Pac-10 basketball season.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Sophomore
forwardIris Mora was named the Pac-10’s
Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference announced
Tuesday. Mora tallied a total of three goals and two assists last
week in UCLA’s victories over LMU and USC. She currently
leads the team with nine goals and now holds a single-season
record, notching her 12th assist Sunday against the Trojans.
PAC-10 BASKETBALL: Arizona basketball player
Isaiah Fox issued a public apology on Monday after
admitting he stole $2.58 worth of snack food from a university
student store last week. “I’m very sorry for the
embarrassment this has cost my team and coaching staff, the fans
and the University of Arizona,” the junior forward said in a
statement released by the school. “It’s a humbling
experience that was my own doing, something that won’t happen
again.” Fox admitted stealing a bagel, two packets of cream
cheese and a candy bar, according to a university police report. He
was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.
