Speaks Out

By Daily Bruin Staff

Do you think smoking should be banned on public beaches?
Brandon Jeong

Fifth-year, mechanical engineering
“I think it is OK if they ban smoking at beaches. I just want
them to create designated smoking areas, like they have at
airports, where people can smoke.”

Laura Chrupp

Third-year, psychobiology
“I think that banning smoking in public areas is really good.
(In the past) it has done a lot to improve public health. I do not
get out to the beach much, so I do not know how bad the littering
is.”

James Lee

Fifth-year, aerospace engineering
“I have no problem with them banning smoking at beaches.
There are trash cans at the beaches, but nobody bothers to pick up
their butts.”

Oscar Chu

Fifth-year, electrical engineering
“I really have no problem with people smoking on public
beaches.”

Jarrell Anthro

Fourth-year, anthropology
“It’s a public space like a park. I don’t care if
people smoke on the beach. My dad smokes; I smoke. … It becomes
an issue of too much control (by the government).”
