Three UCLA men’s tennis players advanced to the Round of
16 at the ITA West Regionals in Carson, Calif.
Tobias Clemens, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, coasted to
two easy victories yesterday, beating Loyola’s Mike
Wojnarowicz, 6-0, 6-1, and UC Irvine’s Brian Morton, 6-1,
6-3.
Juniors Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta also advanced to the
Round of 16. Francis defeated San Francisco’s Axel Elvik,
6-0, 6-1, and Fresno State’s Greg Shearer, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Kwinta posted victories over San Francisco’s Jorgen Arnesen,
6-4, 7-5, in the first round and Nic Beuque of San Diego, 6-1, 6-1,
in the second round.
No. 3 seed Chris Lam was upset in the first round by USC’s
Scott Patterson, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
CROSS COUNTRY: UCLA’s men’s and
women’s cross country “B” teams will run in the
Cal State Fullerton Invitational on Friday.
The competition will take place at Carbon Canyon Regional Park
in Brea. Start time for the women’s 5km race is 4 p.m., and
the men’s 8km race will begin at 4:45 p.m.
FOOTBALL: The Bruin Bash tailgate party is set
for Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Jesse A. Brewer Jr. Park, located on
the USC campus, across the street from the Coliseum.
WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS: The 2004 NCAA
Women’s Gymnastics Championship will take place from April 15
to 17, 2004 at Pauley Pavilion. Tickets are on sale now at the UCLA
Central Ticket Office, which can be reached by calling (310)
UCLA-WIN or going to www.tickets.ucla.edu.
SKATEBOARDING: LG Mobile Phones will host a
world-record skateboarding event at Universal City Walk on Oct. 30
beginning at 11 a.m. UCLA students are invited to attend and
participate.
HOCKEY: The UCLA hockey team (0-4) will play at
San Diego State today at 8 p.m. and against Washington State at
Anaheim Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
