Should applicants with less than a 1000 on the SAT be admitted
to UC Berkeley? Is the SAT a good measure of success? Alex
Robinson

Graduate student, geology
“As a whole, I think the SAT is a rather flawed indicator of
potential performance in college as well as for overall
intelligence, so there may be justifications for Berkeley using
other means to accept students other than SAT scores. But it might
be worthwhile to explain what those reasons were.”

Francisco Valdez

Fourth-year, sociology
“The SATs are an excellent standard. … As for these 400
students getting in, I’m going to trust the UCB admissions
department; they handle thousands of admissions each year, and they
know what they are doing.”

Phuongthao Le

Fourth-year, physiological science
“I don’t really have an opinion yet (about the specific
students who got in), but I think SATs are a big factor but maybe
not a crucial factor in determining a person’s admission to
college.”

Arik Nagel

Fourth-year, history
“I don’t think the SAT really captures a person’s
intelligence. It really just captures someone’s ability to
take a test, and I don’t think that should determine whether
someone should go to a good school. I don’t think it really
matters; I think it gives them a more eclectic array of
students.”
