Robert Johnson hired as jumps coach
Robert Johnson, a former assistant at Appalachian State
University, will coach the men’s long, triple and high jumps
as well as the women’s long and triple jumps.
“Coach Johnson will add depth to our staff,”
women’s track head coach Jeanette Bolden said. “He has
a tremendous amount of experience as both an athlete and coach. The
passion, knowledge and experience he brings to recruiting will be
valuable to us.”
Men’s coach Art Venegas is also happy to have Johnson on
board as both coach and recruiter.
“We are excited to see the progress of our jumpers under
his tutelage,” Venegas said.
Kapono signs with Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed former UCLA star Jason
Kapono to a contract. Kapono, the 31st overall pick of the draft,
left UCLA as the third highest scorer in school history.
“Jason is a proven scorer who has shown he can knock down
perimeter shots,” Cavaliers General Manager Jim Paxson said.
“We feel he shows great potential and will grow to become a
very effective player in this league.”
Kapono may be sharing the backcourt this year with the Cavaliers
other draftee, the No. 1 overall pick, phenom LeBron James.
Cleveland finished tied with Denver for the worst record in the
NBA last year at 17-65.
