Is feminism still alive? Should it still be alive? Do you think
women still face discrimination in work or in life? Garen
Kirakosian
First-year, political science
“They do still face discrimination in all aspects of
everything; however, within this feminism movement they still have
going, they have to check themselves, because some of them want
equality only on certain levels, and they don’t want it on
other levels. Like they want it in work, but when there is a fire,
they still want women and children to be rushed out first. When
they are boarding a plane, they still want women and children to be
boarded first. So, I believe in equality on all levels.”

Fourth-year, biochemistry
“I would probably take a very opposite view with feminism,
especially because I’m in the sciences. We get a lot of
discrimination in the sciences. There is a place for (feminism),
but there are a lot of people who take it too far. I don’t
know if there is actual discrimination, or if the women are just
choosing different paths.” Sara Sahl
Fourth-year, psychology
“Feminism is still alive. I think it has a negative
connotation for a lot of people, and it should be looked at with a
more positive attitude, not as such a negative thing. I think women
and men do face different work environments.” John
Shinuda
Fifth-year, economics
“I do feel feminism is still alive, and I believe
it’s the right of the female to get out there and show her
point and have her own free will. To comment on “is there is
still discrimination in the workforce?”, I’d have to
say sure, but on the flip side, I think there are also some jobs
that discriminate against men, but that’s just the way life
is sometimes.” Compiled by Derek Lazzaro/Daily Bruin Senior
