Banachowski to be enshrined in Hall

UCLA women’s volleyball coach Andy Banachowski, the
winningest coach in women’s collegiate volleyball and a San
Mateo native, will be inducted into the San Mateo County Sports
Hall of Fame June 10 at Bay Meadows in San Mateo.

In his 36 years as head coach, Banachowski’s teams have
averaged 26 wins a year and posted a combined record of 939-235. As
a player and coach at UCLA, he has won 12 national
championships.

Banachowski has won the USA Volleyball’s All-Time Coaches’
Award, the National Coach of the Year Award and the Pac-10 Coach of
the Year Award four times. He was also the first women’s
coach to be named to the National Volleyball Hall of Fame.
