Baseball to host Huskies

In the final home games of the season, UCLA (23-26, 7-8 Pac-10)
plays what is perhaps its most important series of the year against
Washington. The Bruins have played well recently, winning four of
their past five. Washington is equally hot as the Bruins, winning
four of their past five as well.

The team will have to keep up the pace by winning at least two
of three in order to maintain their slim playoff hopes, especially
in light of the fact that they will travel to Stanford the
following weekend.

Freshman Brett McMillan has carried the team offensively of
late, hitting .316 with 11 RBI over the past five games. After
briefly losing his starting job, junior Casey Janssen (4-5) has
pitched well in relief and will get the starting nod against the
Huskies (33-14, 8-7). Sean White (6-3) will open the series for
Washington.

Track in action at Oxy Invitational

Both the UCLA men’s and women’s track teams will
compete at the Oxy Invitational at Occidental College on
Saturday.

With the Pac-10 Championships slated for May 16 and 17, neither
squad will bring a full roster, and both coaches will be looking to
avoid injury.

Jeanette Bolden, head coach of the No. 4 UCLA women’s
team, and Art Venegas, head coach of the No. 16 Bruin men’s
team, will have one last chance to evaluate their respective squads
before the postseason begins.

Although technically the conference meet gets underway this
weekend with the decathlon and heptathlon competitions, neither
UCLA squad has an athlete taking part in either event.
