Tennis duo shares Pac-10 player of the year
honors

UCLA men’s tennis players Tobias Clemens and Marcin
Matkowski were named co-Pac-10 players of the year Tuesday, capping
a brilliant regular season campaign for the pair.

Clemens, a junior from Bonn, Germany who is currently ranked No.
5 in the nation, compiled a 30-4 overall record on the season and
finished on a 10-match winning streak.

Matkowski, a junior from Sczcecin, Poland who is currently
ranked No. 24, finished the season 23-3. He is riding a 12-match
winning streak after capturing the Pac-10 singles championship two
weeks ago in Ojai.

Clemens and Matkowski are the first Bruins to receive the honor
since Justin Gimelstob did in 1996.

Lam will join the duo to represent the Bruins in the NCAA
individual championships, which start May 21 in Athens, Ga.

UCLA gymnastics signs Lori Winn

After assembling a very impressive recruiting class of Ashley
Peckett, Aimee Walker and Courtney Walker, the Bruins have added
international elite Lori Winn to the team for the 2004 season.

“Adding Lori Winn to our freshman class next year is truly
like adding an exclamation point on an already very talented
class,” UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field said in a
statement. “Lori will bring excellence and poise to all four
events, and she is as tenacious as they come. That is exactly what
we need to replace the seniors we are losing.”

Winn went to Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City and was a
member of the 2000 U.S. Junior National Team. She finished No. 16
at the 2002 U.S. Classic and placed in the top 25 at the 2001 USA
Championships and the U.S. Classic.
